
An 18-year-old man, identified as Antwain Canty, faces several firearm-related charges following a police chase in Wilmington, Delaware, early Tuesday morning. The incident unfolded on August 12, 2023, around 12:38 a.m., when officers from the Wilmington Police Department attempted to stop Canty, who was allegedly riding an electric scooter illegally.
According to police reports, Canty abandoned the scooter and fled on foot when confronted by the officers. During the pursuit, he was seen removing a firearm from his waistband. Additional police units were called to the scene, successfully apprehending Canty in the 200 block of North Harrison Street without further incident.
Authorities recovered a loaded .45-caliber handgun equipped with a laser attachment. Canty has been charged with possession of a firearm by a person prohibited, carrying a concealed deadly weapon, and resisting arrest. After his arraignment in Justice of the Peace Court 11, he was committed to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution on a cash-only bail set at $31,001.
