usaa-commits-500-million-to-support-veterans-and-military-families

USAA has announced a significant initiative called “Honor Through Action,” committing $500 million over the next five years to support veterans and military families in achieving meaningful careers and financial stability. This launch coincides with Veterans Day, emphasizing the company’s dedication to improving the well-being of those who have served in the military.

Jenna Saucedo-Herrera, USAA’s head of corporate impact, stated, “A simple ‘thank you’ for military service can mean a whole lot, but the intentional actions, the advocacy and support can really change lives and secure brighter futures.” The initiative builds on USAA’s existing “Face the Fight” coalition, which aims to prevent veteran suicide.

The funds will be allocated toward targeted philanthropy, policy advocacy, and various activities designed to enhance economic prospects for veterans and military spouses. According to USAA, around one-third of junior enlisted families report feeling financially stable, and military spouses experience unemployment rates three to four times higher than their civilian counterparts. Furthermore, fewer than one in five transitioning service members feel fully prepared to find civilian employment.

“Honor Through Action” seeks to address these challenges by offering career navigation, employer engagement, skills development, and community support. USAA plans to collaborate with public, private, and nonprofit organizations to maximize its impact.

Saucedo-Herrera remarked, “A lot of the challenges around meaningful careers, financial security and overall well-being continue to persist.” She emphasized that USAA aims to take a leadership role in this effort, serving as a quarterback to mobilize resources and inspire others to join the cause.

The “Honor Through Action” initiative is closely linked to USAA’s “Face the Fight” campaign, which has partnered with over 300 organizations and aims to save 6,500 lives by 2030. Saucedo-Herrera explained that while mental health and suicide prevention are critical concerns, addressing these issues also requires focusing on financial stability and meaningful employment.

USAA is currently in the process of forming alliances for “Honor Through Action” and anticipates announcing various partners next month. These partnerships may involve commitments to military-affiliated hiring or support for nonprofits dedicated to assisting military families and veterans.

“This isn’t about a campaign. It’s not about a one-off idea,” Saucedo-Herrera asserted. “We want to drive systemic change together.” Through this ambitious initiative, USAA aims to foster lasting improvement in the lives of veterans and military families, ensuring they receive the support they deserve.
