The Texas Academy of Family Physicians (TAFP) held its annual session on November 15, 2025, in Addison, Texas, where it installed its officers for the 2025-2026 term. The event was marked by the appointment of Ikemefuna Okwuwa, MD, as president, a role that underscores his commitment to advancing family medicine in the region.

Dr. Okwuwa currently serves as the residency program director at the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center in the Permian Basin. Additionally, he holds the position of chairman of the board of directors for the Permian Basin Health Network, a physician-hospital organization dedicated to enhancing healthcare delivery in the area. His medical education began at the University of Benin Medical School in Benin City, Edo State, Nigeria, where he graduated before completing his residency training at TTUHSCPB.

The installation ceremony also recognized the contributions of other newly appointed officers, reflecting TAFP’s ongoing efforts to foster leadership within the family medicine community. Dr. Okwuwa’s previous roles include serving as a new physician member and an at-large member on TAFP’s Board of Directors, positions that have equipped him with valuable insights into the organization’s operations and objectives.
