Main Line Health has inaugurated its first in-house Psychiatry Residency Program at Bryn Mawr Hospital, significantly enhancing mental health training and patient access. This new centralized facility, located in the Founder’s Building at 101 S. Bryn Mawr Ave., integrates psychology and psychotherapy services with psychiatry residents participating in an accredited program by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education.
The establishment of this dedicated space follows the transition of psychiatry residents to Main Line Health, prompted by the closure of Crozer Health. Health system officials emphasized that the new suite promotes collaboration among residents and staff, thereby strengthening education and improving patient care. By consolidating resources in one location, the program aims to create a cohesive learning environment while also expanding access to essential mental health services for the community.
Program Details and Curriculum
The Psychiatry Residency Program features a comprehensive curriculum that includes hands-on clinical experience tailored to meet community needs. The program offers rotations in various settings, including inpatient and outpatient care, as well as specialized fields such as addiction psychiatry, child and adolescent psychiatry, consultation-liaison psychiatry, geriatric psychiatry, and emergency psychiatry.
Under the leadership of Brittni Jones, DO, the program is staffed by a dedicated team of eight psychologists and psychotherapists, along with five resident psychiatrists. Among the residents are Kenneth Wee and Robert Duprey, both in their fourth year, as well as Asa Thompson, Reema Patel, and Zita Jones, who are currently in their third year of training.
The facility officially opened its doors on December 8, 2023, and is now accepting new patients. Officials from Main Line Health noted that this expansion is part of their broader strategy to address the increasing demand for mental health services.
Impact on Community and Future Plans
The new Psychiatry Residency Program aims to enhance continuity of care and support the training of future physicians, bringing high-quality psychiatric services closer to patients in the Main Line area. As mental health needs continue to rise, Main Line Health is committed to providing comprehensive support that aligns with the community’s requirements.
Overall, the launch of this program marks a significant milestone in the ongoing effort to strengthen mental health services and education. The integration of training and direct patient care is expected to yield positive outcomes for both residents and the community they serve.
