The official teaser for the revival of the beloved sitcom “Malcolm in the Middle” has been released, showcasing the return of key cast members. Titled “Malcolm in the Middle: Life’s Still Unfair,” this four-part streaming event is set to premiere on April 10, 2026, exclusively on Hulu. The revival comes nearly 25 years after the original series first aired on Fox, captivating audiences from 2000 to 2006.
The teaser introduces viewers to Malcolm, portrayed by Frankie Muniz, who is pulled back into his chaotic family life after a long absence. The show’s synopsis reveals that Malcolm has distanced himself from his family for over a decade but is summoned by his parents, Hal, played by Bryan Cranston, and Lois, portrayed by Jane Kaczmarek, for their 40th anniversary celebration.
Returning to the series are other familiar faces, including Christopher Masterson and Justin Berfield, who reprise their roles as Malcolm’s older brothers, Francis and Reese, respectively. Additionally, Emy Coligado returns as Piama, Francis’ wife. However, Erik Per Sullivan, who originally played the younger brother Dewey, will not be returning. Instead, actor Caleb Ellsworth-Clark has been cast in the role.
In a recent episode of the podcast “Fly on the Wall,” hosted by Dana Carvey and David Spade, Cranston shed light on Sullivan’s decision to step away from the revival. He shared, “I talked to Erik and I said, ‘Hey, we got the show! It’s going to come back.’ He goes, ‘Oh, that’s fantastic!’ And I go, ‘Yeah, so we’re looking forward to having you back.’ He goes, ‘Oh, no, no, I don’t want to do it. But it’s fantastic that you are.’ He’s actually going to Harvard,” Cranston noted, emphasizing Sullivan’s academic pursuits.
The original incarnation of “Malcolm in the Middle” received critical acclaim, winning seven Emmy Awards, including one for best writing in a comedy series. It remains a popular choice among viewers and is currently available for streaming on both Hulu and Disney+.
As anticipation builds for the revival, fans of the series can look forward to reuniting with their favorite characters and experiencing the humor and heart that made “Malcolm in the Middle” a cultural touchstone.
