Iran’s Foreign Minister, Abbas Araghchi, confirmed that Russia is providing support to Iran in “many different directions” as the conflict with the United States and Israel continues. This statement follows reports that Moscow has been sharing intelligence regarding the locations of US military forces in the Middle East. In an interview on NBC’s “Meet The Press” on October 29, 2023, Araghchi emphasized that the military cooperation between the two nations is not new and will persist in the future.

Araghchi characterized the relationship between Tehran and Moscow as a “very good partnership.” When questioned about the specific nature of Russia’s assistance, especially concerning the ongoing military operations known as “Operation Epic Fury,” he affirmed: “They are helping us in many different directions.” Although he did not provide detailed information, his comments reflect a clear acknowledgment of the collaborative efforts between the two countries.

Recent reports suggest that since the onset of military actions on February 28, 2023, the Kremlin has been relaying information about the positions of US warships, aircraft, and other military assets to Iran. In response to these military developments, Iran has launched thousands of drones and missiles targeting US interests in the region.

However, Mike Waltz, the United Nations Ambassador, dismissed the effectiveness of the intelligence provided by Russia. He stated that US forces have been “decimating” Iran’s military capabilities, suggesting that any assistance from Moscow has not significantly impacted the conflict dynamics. “Whatever they’re providing, if they’re providing anything, hasn’t shown to help them very much,” Waltz remarked.

In light of the escalating conflict, Araghchi rejected calls for a ceasefire, asserting that Iran must continue its military efforts for the sake of its people. “There needs to be a permanent end to the war,” he stated, emphasizing the necessity of ongoing resistance to ensure national security. Araghchi’s comments underscore Iran’s commitment to its military objectives, even amid international pressure for peace.

The increasing cooperation between Iran and Russia raises questions about the broader implications for regional stability as both nations navigate their strategic interests amid ongoing hostilities.
