Dwight City Group has officially broken ground on the redevelopment of the historic Hanover Street Mill in Pottstown, Pennsylvania, marking a significant milestone in the borough’s revitalization efforts. The project will transform the early-20th-century warehouse located at 274 North Hanover Street into 85 upscale one- and two-bedroom apartments, seamlessly blending the building’s industrial heritage with modern living amenities.
Modern Living Meets Historic Charm
The redevelopment aims to preserve the mill’s historic architecture while introducing contemporary comforts for future residents. Features of the new apartment complex will include a 10,000-square-foot rooftop deck equipped with green spaces and garden-inspired landscaping, providing expansive views of the nearby mountains. Additional amenities will encompass a fitness center, office space, a café, indoor parking, and a resident lounge.
Leasing for the apartments is expected to commence within the next 12 to 18 months. The groundbreaking ceremony, held on July 2, 2023, drew a diverse crowd of local and state officials, highlighting the project’s significance to the community.
Economic Impact and Community Support
Justin Keller, Borough Manager of Pottstown, expressed optimism about the project’s potential impact, stating, “This project marks another significant step forward in Pottstown’s revitalization. The 85 new apartments will help address our growing demand for quality housing in walkable, transit-accessible neighborhoods.” Keller added that this initiative would also contribute to expanding the borough’s tax base by transforming a long-underutilized site.
The development is anticipated to attract new residents, which could invigorate local businesses and enhance the vibrancy of downtown Pottstown. Peggy Lee-Clark, Executive Director of Pottstown Area Economic Development (PAED), echoed these sentiments, highlighting the project’s role in bolstering the local economy. “The opportunity this development will provide for Pottstown’s economy, both now and in the future, is vital to the strengthening of the Downtown Area,” Lee-Clark stated. She expressed gratitude to Dwight City Group for their commitment to this initiative, saying, “This is the kind of project we want to do over and over again. I wish I had 10 Dwight City Groups.”
As Pottstown continues to gain attention for its revitalization efforts, the Hanover Street Mill project stands as a testament to the borough’s transformation. It honors its industrial past while paving the way for a more dynamic and livable future.
