A DUI checkpoint conducted on October 20, 2023, in Chula Vista resulted in two arrests for driving under the influence. The operation, held from 18:00 to 23:00 in the 1000 block of Third Avenue, aimed to enhance road safety and deter impaired driving.

According to the Chula Vista Police Department, a total of 2,763 vehicles passed through the checkpoint, with 774 vehicles screened for potential violations. In addition to the two DUI arrests, officers impounded five vehicles as part of the enforcement action. The checkpoint also resulted in 28 citations being issued, with a significant number attributed to unlicensed or suspended drivers.

Of the citations issued, 20 were specifically for driving without a valid license or with a suspended license. The remaining citations encompassed a variety of other traffic violations, emphasizing the checkpoint’s role in promoting safe driving practices in the area.

The police department noted that the locations of DUI checkpoints are determined based on reported incidents of impaired driving-related crashes. This strategic approach aims to target areas where impaired driving incidents are more likely to occur, thereby increasing public safety.
