Police Chief Floyd Mitchell provided details about the incident, stating it was a “very targeted incident.” Assistant Chief James Beere elaborated that the suspect and Beam were acquainted, though they were not close. The suspect, who played football at Skyline High School, was taken into custody without incident, and a firearm was recovered at the scene.

Beam joined Laney College in 2004 as a running backs coach and became the head coach in 2012, leading the team to two league championships.
