UPDATE: The latest Varsity Maine girls basketball poll reveals minor shifts, primarily at the bottom of the top ten, highlighting the competitive landscape as the season progresses. The updated rankings show Gray-New Gloucester surging to 7th and Biddeford jumping to 8th, both surpassing Gardiner in the latest announcement.

In a remarkable turnaround, the Patriots from Gray-New Gloucester have clinched five consecutive victories since their only loss, solidifying their status as the top team in the Class B South Heal point standings. On the other hand, Biddeford is riding high on a 10-game winning streak after a shaky start of 3-2. Their only defeats this season have come against No. 1 Cheverus and No. 3 Sanford, underscoring their resilience.

Adding to the excitement, Camden Hills has re-entered the rankings after a three-poll absence, currently sitting at 10th as they enjoy a six-game winning streak and hold the top position in the A North Heal standings.

In the upper echelons of the poll, Cheverus remains the unanimous choice at No. 1 for the third consecutive week, followed by South Portland at No. 2 and Sanford now holding the No. 3 spot alone after sharing it with Mt. Ararat last week.

The full rankings, as compiled by Assistant Sports Editor Bob Aube, are as follows:

1. Cheverus (9) – 90 points
2. South Portland – 71 points
3. Sanford – 59 points
4. Mt. Ararat – 57 points

6. Oceanside – 42 points
7. Gray-New Gloucester – 41 points
8. Biddeford – 31 points
