UPDATE: A serial slasher is on the loose after carrying out three unprovoked attacks in Brooklyn over a 24-hour period. The latest incident occurred early Sunday morning, raising urgent concerns among residents and commuters.
Authorities report the first attack took place on October 21, 2023, around 6:30 a.m., when a man, aged 37, was slashed on the left side of his face while riding a Manhattan-bound Q train. The attack happened as the train approached the Church Ave. subway stop in Flatbush. The victim managed to alert police after exiting the train, while the assailant remained onboard.
As police worked to identify the suspect, he struck again. At approximately 9:40 p.m. on the same day, he attacked a 53-year-old man near Foster and New York Avenues, just over a mile from the initial assault. Then, just before 7:00 a.m. on Sunday, he slashed a 56-year-old man near Newkirk Ave. and New York Avenues, only a block away from the previous scene.
All three victims were transported to Kings County Hospital and are reported to be in stable condition. The NYPD has launched an extensive search for the suspect, who is described as wearing a navy blue jacket, black shorts, and white sneakers.
In the wake of these alarming incidents, the police have released a surveillance image of the attacker and are urging anyone with information to contact Crime Stoppers at (800) 577-TIPS.
The recent slashing spree comes on the heels of another unsettling subway incident in Manhattan, where a man was stabbed during a confrontation on a D train. This pattern of violence is causing significant fear among New Yorkers, particularly those who rely on public transportation.
Officials are emphasizing the importance of public vigilance as they work to apprehend the individual responsible for these attacks. The community is urged to remain cautious and report any suspicious behavior to the authorities.
