UPDATE: The Bradford Township Volunteer Fire Department has urgently re-listed its former fire station, Station 15-1, located on the Interstate Parkway. Originally put up for sale in June 2025, the building remains vacant as the department seeks to consolidate operations and focus on more functional facilities.
The fire station, constructed in 1958, is no longer suitable for modern fire trucks. Chief Dan Burkhouse stated, “The size of our apparatus has increased dramatically, and these buildings just aren’t big enough for our trucks anymore.” The bays do not accommodate the current equipment, leaving the building underutilized for years.
Despite attempts at renovation, officials determined it was more prudent to sell. “It has been renovated a couple of times but it’s more of a social hall now,” Burkhouse explained. The building spans over 11 acres and features space for over 220 people, complete with tables, chairs, full bathrooms, a kitchen, cold storage, and a garage.
Department President Sean Galbraith emphasized the potential of the site. “It could be used for just about anything with the right imagination, within zoning requirements,” he said. The department envisions the space transforming into a community center or even a daycare facility, making it an appealing option for local organizations.
As maintenance costs mount, the department has decided that disposing of the building is a sound financial move. “We really think this is our best fiscal move to get rid of this building and use those funds to update a building more centrally located to where our first responders are,” Galbraith noted. Proceeds from the sale will directly fund updates to the Custer City Valley and West Branch Valley stations, which are also struggling with space issues.
All reasonable offers will be considered, making this an opportune time for interested buyers. For more information, call (814) 362-3280 or email the department at [email protected]. The community is encouraged to act quickly as this sale presents a unique opportunity for development in the area.
