UPDATE: A powerful wind event is set to disrupt Halloween night festivities across New Jersey with gusts reaching up to 50 mph. The National Weather Service has issued urgent wind advisories for all 21 counties in the state, effective until midnight tonight.
As night falls, temperatures are expected to plummet into the 40s, creating a chilling atmosphere for those out trick-or-treating. The strongest winds are forecasted to hit during the late afternoon and evening, with sustained speeds of approximately 30 mph and gusts peaking at 45 mph, particularly along coastal areas. Isolated gusts may even reach 50 mph before tapering off later tonight.
Authorities warn that these severe winds could severely impact outdoor Halloween celebrations, even if they don’t meet the strict criteria for wind advisories. Residents are urged to secure decorations and take precautions while out in the potentially dangerous conditions.
Looking ahead, temperatures will continue to drop overnight, with some inland valleys possibly experiencing lows between 35 to 40 degrees. Tomorrow, Saturday, conditions will remain breezy, with wind gusts of 25 to 30 mph expected, especially near the coast. Daytime highs will reach the upper 50s to around 60 degrees under a mix of sun and clouds.
Saturday night is forecasted to bring further cooling, with many areas experiencing lows in the 30s and potential frost in inland regions. Sunday will remain seasonably cool, with highs in the mid-50s to low 60s and partly to mostly sunny skies.
As the weekend progresses, a developing low-pressure system off the Mid-Atlantic coast may bring light rain to southern New Jersey by Sunday night. Lows during this time are expected to range from the mid-30s to low 40s.
Following this system, a cold front is predicted to sweep through on Monday night, bringing additional chances for light showers across the state. The entire region could see rain, although amounts are expected to remain minimal.
Behind the cold front, drier air will move in, but temperatures will remain stable. Highs on Monday are predicted to be in the upper 50s to low 60s, with nighttime lows generally in the low 40s.
Residents are advised to remain vigilant as the weather conditions evolve. Stay safe this Halloween and keep an eye on local forecasts for the latest updates.
