urgent-boca-grande-parking-ordinance-enforcement-starts-this-weekend

URGENT UPDATE: Enforcement of the new Boca Grande Parking Ordinance begins this weekend, as confirmed by the Lee County Sheriff’s Office. Starting Saturday, deputies will actively monitor parking compliance on the island, making this a critical moment for residents and visitors alike.

According to Todd Olmer, public affairs captain for the Lee County Sheriff’s Office, an electronic signboard is being installed at the county line to alert all incoming visitors and residents about the new parking laws. “When deputies observe violations, they will continue to use discretion and will issue warnings or citations on a case-by-case basis,” Olmer stated. The community’s cooperation is vital in educating everyone about these changes.

The new regulations, aimed at easing congestion and ensuring safety, introduce parking passes specifically for residents and island workers. Hotels and rental units will also distribute paper passes for guests. Homeowners can request additional paper guest passes for their visitors who need to park on the street. For those without a pass, a strict three-hour parking limit is now enforced in town, particularly at 5th Street. Notably, parking passes are not required during “limited duration” events on the island, and churches on Gilchrist can park in the median on Sundays between 3rd and 5th streets.

In response to community needs, new dates have been announced for residents to pick up their parking permits. These will take place at the Crowninshield Community House from 9 a.m. to noon on several dates: February 2, February 4, February 9, February 11, February 12, February 16, February 18, February 19, February 23, February 25, and February 26.

Residents are encouraged to act quickly to secure their permits as enforcement intensifies. The swift implementation of these regulations underscores the importance of preparing for the upcoming changes. With the new parking ordinance in effect, ensuring compliance is essential for a smooth experience on Boca Grande.

Stay tuned for further updates as the situation develops. This is a pivotal time for the Boca Grande community, and understanding these changes is crucial for all who visit or reside there.
