UPDATE: Renowned artist Tyler Stout has just unveiled a spectacular new poster for the iconic 1931 film Frankenstein, set to debut at two simultaneous exhibitions in Austin, Texas, and Los Angeles, California. This highly anticipated release is part of a unique showcase celebrating the legendary Universal Monsters franchise.
Starting today, October 23, the exhibition at Celebrity Authentics in Universal Citywalk, Los Angeles, will be open from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. and will run until November 2. Meanwhile, the Austin event at Canopy Gallery will kick off on October 24, from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m., and will only be available through the weekend, ending on October 26.
Stout’s poster measures an impressive 24 x 72 inches, a size designed to reflect the towering presence of the monster itself. This two-sheet screenprint is priced at $120, with a limited edition of just 300 prints. Attendees in Austin can also look forward to exclusive versions only available at the event, as well as a third variant set to launch at a future convention.
According to Rob Jones, co-founder of Coda, “The work of Tyler Stout undoubtedly popularized the notion of alternate film posters more than other artists in the field.” He emphasized that Stout’s creative process is a spectacle to behold, giving fans a unique glimpse into the mind of one of cinema’s most celebrated poster artists.
Stout drew inspiration from the nostalgic Jack Davis ‘Life Size Frankenstein’ poster, splitting the image across two sheets to create a visually stunning effect. This approach, alongside expert printing by DL Screenprinting in Seattle, results in a work that is truly one-of-a-kind in the realm of film art.
The excitement doesn’t stop with Stout’s work. Both exhibitions feature a plethora of original artwork and screen-printed posters from a variety of talented artists, all themed around Universal Monsters. Each location offers a distinct collection, making it essential for fans to visit both galleries to see the unique pieces on display.
As the launch date approaches, fans and collectors are urged to stay alert for updates, especially regarding the availability of unsold prints, which will be made available online in November through codacurates.com and Sideshow.
This dual exhibition not only showcases Stout’s incredible talent but also highlights the enduring legacy of Universal Monsters in popular culture, making it a must-see event for fans of film art. Don’t miss your chance to experience this monstrous celebration of creativity!
