UPDATE: Former President Donald Trump has issued a dire warning regarding his tariff policy, claiming that “dark and sinister forces” are actively trying to undermine the U.S. economy, which he asserts is the “strongest” in the world. In a series of posts on Truth Social earlier today, November 9, 2023, Trump’s comments underline his ongoing concerns about tariff decisions and international relations.
In his first post, Trump highlighted that European nations are considering their own tariff strategies against China. He emphasized the potential threat to U.S. national security should the U.S. Supreme Court make a negative ruling on tariffs. Trump stated, “The biggest threat in history to United States National Security would be a negative decision on Tariffs by the U.S. Supreme Court. We would be financially defenseless.”
Trump’s alarming rhetoric comes at a critical moment as he reflects on the implications of international trade policies. “Now Europe is going to Tariffs against China, as they already do against others. We would not be allowed to do what others already do!” he added.
In a follow-up post, Trump declared, “Because of Tariffs, easily and quickly applied, our National Security has been greatly enhanced, and we have become the financially strongest Country, by far, anywhere in the World.” He warned that only “dark and sinister forces” would wish to end this progress.
The former president’s comments are particularly urgent as he also addressed a pressing issue with Mexico regarding violations of the Water Treaty. Trump accused Mexico of failing to comply with its obligations, stating, “Mexico continues to violate our comprehensive Water Treaty, and this violation is seriously hurting our BEAUTIFUL TEXAS CROPS AND LIVESTOCK.”
He pointed out that Mexico owes the U.S. over 800,000 acre-feet of water due to non-compliance over the past five years. Urging immediate action, Trump stated, “The U.S needs Mexico to release 200,000 acre-feet of water before December 31st, and the rest must come soon after.” He expressed frustration over Mexico’s lack of response, labeling it unfair to U.S. farmers who depend on this essential resource.
Trump went further, threatening a 5% tariff on Mexican goods if the water issue isn’t resolved immediately. “The longer Mexico takes to release the water, the more our Farmers are hurt. Mexico has an obligation to FIX THIS NOW,” he emphasized.
While Trump boasts about the strength of the U.S. economy, experts are raising concerns about potential price increases in 2026. Joseph Feldman, a senior managing director at Telsey Advisory Group, warned, “In the first half of next year, we are concerned that consumers are going to start to see the price increases become a little more broad-based, and there may not be all the [holiday sales] promotion to help clear through some of that.”
This situation is rapidly evolving, and Trump’s threats could have significant implications for U.S.-Mexico relations and the agricultural sector in Texas. As the deadline approaches for Mexico to comply with water release requirements, all eyes will be on the outcome of these high-stakes negotiations.
