
URGENT UPDATE: Significant street closures and parking restrictions are now in effect in Geneva as the highly anticipated Festival of the Vine kicks off this weekend, from September 5 to September 7. The Geneva Police Department has released critical information for residents and visitors, urging everyone to plan accordingly.
The annual festival, featuring delicious food, wine, craft beer, and live entertainment, will be centered around the Kane County Courthouse at 100 S. Third St.. With thousands expected to attend, local authorities are taking proactive measures to ensure the safety and accessibility of the event.
Starting Wednesday, September 3, James Street from the middle of the 300 block to Fifth Street and Fourth Street from the middle of the first block to James Street will be closed to through traffic. Additionally, parking restrictions will commence at 11:59 p.m. on Tuesday, September 2, on both James and Fourth streets.
Beginning Saturday, September 6, Campbell Street will also close from Third to Fourth streets, with parking restrictions beginning late on Friday, September 5. Furthermore, parking will be restricted on Fifth Street on both sides from State to Campbell streets starting late Thursday, September 4.
Local businesses will maintain parking lot access on James and Fourth streets, despite the restrictions. However, vehicles found in restricted areas risk being ticketed or towed. Authorities remind the public that parking is prohibited within 20 feet of any intersection or crosswalk.
To ensure safety and monitor the event from above, a law enforcement drone will be deployed for real-time aerial surveillance throughout the festival.
Parking restrictions will be lifted after the festival concludes on Sunday, September 7, but the road closures will remain in effect until 3 p.m. on Monday, September 8.
