BREAKING: Skateboarding icon Terry Kennedy is set to be released from prison on December 31, 2025, just in time for New Year’s Eve. The Illinois Department of Corrections confirms that Kennedy, 40, was eligible for sentence credit, allowing his release date to be moved up significantly.

Kennedy has been serving a 5-year sentence after being convicted of two counts of aggravated battery related to the tragic death of fellow skater Josiah Kassahun. The incident occurred at the Comfort Suites Motel in Oakbrook Terrace, Illinois, on July 27, 2021, when an altercation escalated, leading to Kassahun suffering fatal injuries. He was only 23 years old at the time of his death.

In 2022, Kennedy was acquitted of murder charges but faced conviction on the aggravated battery counts, resulting in two consecutive five-year sentences to be served at 50 percent. Following his release, he will be on supervised release until June 30, 2026, when he is expected to be fully discharged.

Kennedy is recognized as a legend in the street skating community, having competed in prominent events like the X Games and the Maloof Money Cup. His influence extends beyond the skateboarding realm, with appearances in various TV shows, films, and video games.

As fans eagerly await his return, it marks a significant moment not just for Kennedy but for the skateboarding world as well. Kennedy walks free in less than 29 days, igniting discussions about his impact and future in the sport.
