UPDATE: Director Ruben Fleischer has unveiled exciting details about the highly anticipated film Now You See Me: Now You Don’t, confirming the return of fan-favorite characters and hinting at a potential fourth installment. As the film hits theaters, audiences are buzzing with anticipation.
Fleischer, known for his work on blockbuster franchises like Zombieland and Venom, expressed his enthusiasm for reuniting with stars Jesse Eisenberg and Woody Harrelson, marking his fourth collaboration with both actors. “Their involvement is definitely why I did this movie,” Fleischer stated in a recent interview.
The film introduces new Gen Z magicians, played by Ariana Greenblatt, Dominic Sessa, and Justice Smith, who join the original Horsemen to fight against Rosamund Pike‘s character, Veronika Vanderberg. This fresh cast aims to resonate with younger audiences while maintaining the franchise’s signature Robin Hood ethos.
In a thrilling twist, Mark Ruffalo‘s character Dylan Shrike, who was thought to be imprisoned, surprises the Horsemen with a holographic message, setting the stage for future heists. Fleischer revealed, “It was during reshoots this past summer that Ruffalo happened to be available for a day in New York. We were able to shoot him against a green screen and add him to the final scene of the movie.”
The film’s box office performance will determine the direction for a fourth installment, with Fleischer expressing a desire to bring back the entire cast of Horsemen, currently numbering nine. “It presents challenges,” he admitted, “but we’re in the midst of that right now as we’re working on the fourth installment.”
Fleischer also addressed the absence of Isla Fisher in the previous film, Now You See Me 2, due to her pregnancy. He ensured her character Henley returns in this film, playing a pivotal role alongside Lizzy Caplan, who reprises her character Lula May. Fleischer emphasized the importance of showcasing female solidarity among the magicians, stating, “It was really important to me that we rectify the past.”
As the film explores themes of corruption and greed, it resonates with younger viewers, creating a connection between the original Horsemen and the new generation. The casting of young actors who idolized the original film adds a meta layer to the narrative, with Fleischer noting, “There was this fun life-imitating-art quality.”
With Now You See Me: Now You Don’t now in theaters, fans are eager to see if the film’s success will lead to the long-awaited Zombieland 3, which is tentatively scheduled for release in 2029. Fleischer remarked, “We always talk about it… we’ve got a little bit of time to figure it out, but we’ve got to get on it, that’s for sure.”
As audiences flock to theaters, the excitement surrounding Now You See Me: Now You Don’t is palpable. Stay tuned for more updates on the film’s performance and potential franchise developments.
