
UPDATE: Urgent body camera footage has just been released, capturing police in Northridge, California, as they opened fire on a suspect armed with a firearm. The shocking incident occurred on July 20, 2023, when LAPD officers responded to reports of a man with a gun near Prairie Street.
The footage, available on the LAPD’s YouTube channel, shows the suspect, identified as 28-year-old Romario Iraheta, riding a skateboard near a busy shopping center. As officers approached, Iraheta attempted to flee on foot, prompting a dramatic chase. According to police statements, during the pursuit, Iraheta allegedly pointed a handgun at the officers, leading them to discharge their weapons.
“Iraheta was struck by gunfire but continued to run, stopping a short time later, and was taken into custody,” police reported.
The suspect was quickly rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment and has since been booked for assault with a deadly weapon against a police officer. Fortunately, no injuries to officers or bystanders were reported during the incident.
Authorities recovered a black steel handgun, loaded with a high-capacity magazine and live rounds, at the scene, which is now part of the ongoing investigation.
