UPDATE: The Pope John Paul II High School Legacy of Impact Hall of Fame induction ceremony is scheduled for November 14, 2025, at 7 PM. This event is set to honor remarkable figures in the local sports community, making it a must-attend for alumni and supporters alike.

Among those being honored is Jim Shaffer, a distinguished coach known for his exceptional leadership at Archbishop Kennedy High School. Shaffer led his boys’ basketball team to numerous victories, including a Bicentennial League title and two District 1 championships. His influence extends beyond the court; he was instrumental in founding the AMBUCS Stars Special Olympics Montgomery County basketball team in 1988, showcasing his commitment to all athletes.

Equally significant is the induction of the 1976 Bishop Kenrick High School boys’ basketball team, celebrated for their underdog victory in the Philadelphia Catholic League championship. This team pulled off a stunning upset against West Catholic, securing a 64-54 win and solidifying their legacy as a true Cinderella story in local sports history.

Another notable inductee, Charles McPherson, known affectionately as “Mr. Mac,” will also receive recognition for his lifetime dedication to coaching and community service. His contributions to the Norristown area and St. Patrick’s CYO program have left a lasting impact, inspiring generations of young athletes. McPherson’s legacy is evident in the continued involvement of his family in local sports.

Joining these legends are Alyssa Neilson Borzillo, Rick Keeley, and Douglas T. Dunn, each recognized for their contributions to the school and community.

The ceremony will begin with a reception at 6 PM, leading into the induction at 7 PM. Attendees can expect to hear heartfelt speeches and witness the celebration of impactful legacies that have shaped local sports.

This event is not just a ceremony; it’s a chance to remember the powerful stories of teamwork, resilience, and community spirit. As alumni and community members gather to celebrate, the emotional connections and shared memories will undoubtedly make this an unforgettable evening.
