UPDATE: An NYPD officer shot a 22-year-old felon during a gunfight in Brooklyn on October 3, 2023. The incident occurred around 7:30 p.m. on Ocean Avenue in Prospect Park South, when police heard gunfire and spotted two suspects exchanging shots.
NYPD officials report that the officers, on patrol, reacted decisively to the dangerous situation. “Tonight our officers ran towards gunfire and bravely confronted a dangerous scenario,” said Assistant Chief Frank Giordano during a press conference.
The suspect, identified as Edynesson Bauduy, was struck by police gunfire. Bauduy, a two-time convicted felon recently released on parole on June 10, 2023, was hit at least once and is currently in stable condition at Kings County Hospital.
Both officers involved were transported to a local hospital for evaluation following the gunfire. “If he had received a consecutive sentence for his two distinct violent crimes, he would not be out on the streets right now, involved in yet another shooting,” Giordano emphasized, highlighting the ongoing concerns about repeat offenders in the justice system.
Bauduy had a history of violence, including a previous arrest in 2021 for a shooting incident and a violent commercial robbery for which he was convicted. His release just two months ago has raised alarms about public safety.
As the scene remains active, the second suspect, who fled towards Church Avenue, is still at large. Officers recovered one gun and several casings from the scene, and the investigation is ongoing.
