Instead of a traditional follow-up, a new series titled “Talk to Me” will launch exclusively for Meta headsets, featuring six immersive episodes shot entirely in 3D. This groundbreaking project was officially greenlit in August 2023 and promises to revolutionize the horror genre.
According to Variety, the series will transport viewers into a chilling realm where they can experience the terror of the original film firsthand. With a focus on a group of young travelers seeking the ultimate party on a European island, the story revolves around their discovery of a supernatural hand that offers a high more dangerous than any drug. As they engage with this paranormal entity, they will learn that “trapped in a hell dimension” is not an ideal vacation spot.
The creative team behind this ambitious project includes new talent. Darren Brandl, co-founder of XRTV, conceptualized the series alongside Trent Atherton, who will write all six episodes. Craig William Macneill, known for his work on “Castle Rock” and “Westworld,” will direct. Brandl emphasizes the unique capabilities of extended reality (XR), stating, “The promise of XR is this idea that we can now map the story into your own space so you feel like you’re inside it.”
The original directing duo, Danny and Michael Philippou, remain on board as executive producers but have handed the reins over to this fresh creative team. Brandl highlights the thrilling potential of the series, noting, “It made possession fun, and the scares unforgettable.” With this immersive experience, fans can expect to feel the dread of possession like never before.
While the XR series is generating buzz, fans are still eagerly awaiting the traditional sequel. The Philippou brothers hinted at their plans for “Talk to Me 2” earlier this year during discussions about their other project, “Bring Her Back.” Danny Philippou revealed, “When we submitted Bring Her Back to some of the funding places, they were like, ‘What about Talk to Me 2?’ So there was pressure from people.” He expressed that a pause was necessary to approach the sequel with “fresh eyes.”
As of now, no release date or title has been announced for the “Talk to Me” series on Meta and XRTV. However, there is a clear interest in bringing a cinematic sequel to life. The anticipation for both the immersive and traditional formats of “Talk to Me” keeps horror fans on the edge of their seats.
Stay tuned for updates on the release and further details as this story develops.
