UPDATE: More than 200 attendees gathered this afternoon at the New Hampshire Veterans Cemetery in Boscawen to solemnly honor veterans of the Korean War during the annual Korean War Remembrance Ceremony. The event, organized by New Hampshire’s Korean-American community, serves as a poignant reminder of the sacrifices made by both American and South Korean soldiers during a conflict that remains deeply significant.
The ceremony, held on June 30, 2023, featured military flags, wreaths, and heartfelt tributes, bringing together families, dignitaries, and community members. “Your attendance at these tremendous events every year … it forces all who care to never forget these vulnerable veterans,” stated Park Sun-woo, former president of the New Hampshire Korean Veterans Association.
This year’s remembrance is especially critical as it marks the ongoing solidarity between the United States and South Korea, forged during a war that resulted in significant casualties: over 500,000 South Korean troops137,000 killed, while 37,000 U.S. troops92,000 were wounded. The conflict, often termed the “Forgotten War,” was ignited on June 25, 1950, when North Korean forces invaded South Korea.
