mother-daughter-duo-choose-california-over-texas-for-new-home

UPDATE: A mother and daughter have made a surprising decision to stay in California instead of moving to Texas after discovering a new community that offers affordable multigenerational living. Tracy Smith, 67, and her daughter Clair Mattig-Smith, 42, recently purchased a home in the Silverwood community in Hesperia, California, and are set to finalize the deal on October 27, 2023.

The duo initially planned to leave California for Texas, drawn by the promise of a slower pace and a more community-oriented lifestyle. However, after discovering Silverwood—a vibrant, affordable living community just 15 minutes from their current residence in Apple Valley—they were won over by its unique offerings and neighborly spirit.

“We fell in love with Silverwood right away,” Clair shared, highlighting the community’s focus on aesthetics, with beautiful parks and hiking trails enhancing the neighborhood’s appeal. The pair toured 21 home models before deciding on a 6-bedroom, 3-bathroom house measuring 2,800 square feet. Their final purchase price was $642,000, which they note is a competitive deal for California.

The Smiths were particularly impressed by Silverwood’s emphasis on community. Residents must sign a kindness pledge, fostering a positive environment that promotes interaction among neighbors. “I think that sort of thing is much needed in today’s society,” Clair stated.

In anticipation of their move, the community has already begun organizing events to build camaraderie. Tracy noted, “They held a neighbor get-together a few weeks ago, and it was lovely to see families and kids playing together.”

Silverwood’s future plans include developing schools and shopping centers, ensuring the community will grow and thrive in the coming years. Tracy expressed her excitement, stating, “The neighborhood welcome center has already been developed, and there are ample green spaces and trails for us to enjoy.”

Both women are looking forward to the benefits of multigenerational living, which they have embraced over the past two-and-a-half years. Clair mentioned, “Having my mom around means I have support with the kids and home.” Tracy added, “At my age, I want to be useful and help whoever needs my help.”

Despite the allure of Texas’s affordability, the emotional ties to their California roots and the unique offerings of Silverwood have solidified their decision to stay in the Golden State. “Silverwood is 100% the only reason we decided to stay in the state,” Clair emphasized.

As they prepare for this new chapter, the Smiths’ story highlights the impact of community-oriented living in a world where connection often feels lost. With their final walk-through scheduled for this week, they are eager to settle into their new home and embrace the vibrant life that awaits them in Hesperia.

Stay tuned for updates as the Smiths embark on this exciting journey, marking a pivotal moment in their lives and showcasing the evolving landscape of affordable living in California.
