URGENT UPDATE: A man has been charged with the violent abduction of his ex-girlfriend and their three young children on November 20, 2023 in Berkeley. Darryl Wayne Hill, 20, was arrested following a harrowing incident that left the mother with visible injuries and her children in distress.

At approximately 1 p.m. on that day, Hill allegedly forced his way into a bathroom, where he choked and punched the 21-year-old mother of his three sons, ages 1 and 3 (two of them being twins). He then dragged her downstairs to a vehicle where the children were waiting and drove off, leading police on a pursuit that ended in San Leandro around 3 p.m.

During the chase, Hill reportedly punched the mother again. Authorities lost sight of him after he crashed into another vehicle in North Oakland. However, police tracked his vehicle to MacArthur and Broadmoor boulevards, where they found him outside the car holding one of his older sons. In a shocking turn, he dropped the child in the street and fled on foot. Officers eventually apprehended him hiding in a trash bin.

Court documents reveal that the woman attempted to downplay the incident, denying any assault or kidnapping despite having a swollen face. She was granted an emergency protective order against Hill.

In a disturbing twist, Hill was free on his own recognizance at the time of this latest incident, stemming from a previous case dating back to March 2023. In that earlier case, he faced charges for allegedly attacking the same woman and was ordered to undergo anger management and parenting classes. Despite the gravity of the allegations, he was released under a nine-month deferred prosecution agreement.

Hill has been charged with felony counts of corporal injury to a relationship partner and three counts of child abuse, alongside a misdemeanor hit-and-run. He has pleaded not guilty and is currently held without bail at Santa Rita Jail, awaiting a pre-trial hearing set for December 5.

Authorities continue to emphasize the gravity of domestic violence cases and have expressed their concern for the well-being of the children involved. This case underscores the urgent need for support systems for victims of domestic abuse.

As this story develops, further details are expected to emerge during the upcoming court proceedings. Stay tuned for more updates.
