lincolnshire-roads-set-for-urgent-resurfacing-over-10-weeks

URGENT UPDATE: Lincolnshire is taking immediate action to address deteriorating road conditions, with significant resurfacing projects set to begin on three major routes. Lincolnshire County Council has confirmed that work on the A52 near Leverton, close to Boston, will commence soon, targeting long-standing issues of crumbling surfaces.

The project is expected to last 10 weeks, involving overnight closures from 7 PM to 6 AM. Specific dates are still being finalized, but the urgency of the situation is clear as complaints about road quality have intensified. During a recent highways committee meeting, councillors highlighted the necessity of comprehensive repairs rather than temporary fixes.

In addition to the A52, nearly a mile of the A17/A151 junction in Holbeach will undergo resurfacing over the next 12 weeks. This route is crucial for freight transport in southern Lincolnshire, further emphasizing the project’s importance to local logistics and economic activity.

The third area targeted for improvement is a 500-meter stretch of the A6121 Ryhall Road in Stamford, which includes upgrades to two pedestrian crossings and is set to take seven weeks to complete. Councillor Michael Cheyne, the executive member for highways, is expected to give final approval following the committee’s unanimous support.

Councillor Ingrid Sheard stated,

“To patch up or do anything less than full resurface would open ourselves up to having to do further work down the line.”

This sentiment reflects the council’s commitment to durable road solutions that will serve the community for years to come.

In a related development, the highways committee has also approved plans for a new cycleway linking Spalding and Pinchbeck. This initiative, backed by a £1.8 million government grant, aims to provide safer travel options for residents, particularly those who rely on bicycles for commuting. Councillor Thomas Sneath emphasized the project’s significance for those without access to cars, stating it will greatly enhance safety for late-night and early-morning cyclists.

As these projects move forward, residents are encouraged to stay informed about timelines and potential disruptions. The focus remains on ensuring that Lincolnshire’s roads meet the needs of its community while enhancing safety and accessibility for all.
