URGENT UPDATE: On December 12, 2023, Kasey Starnes proudly graduated as part of the 350th Basic Training Class at the Kansas Law Enforcement Training Center (KLETC) in Hutchinson, marking a significant milestone for law enforcement in Kansas. The ceremony, held at Integrity Auditorium, celebrated the completion of 14 weeks of intensive training for 20 recruits who are now ready to serve their communities.

As family and friends gathered to witness this important occasion, the recruits took their oath to uphold the law and protect the citizens of Kansas. The event featured a keynote address from David “Tyler” Decker, Chief of Police in Fredonia, who inspired the graduates with words of encouragement. “Each of you arrived at the academy with a story… But regardless of your path, you all stand here now united by a single shared purpose — the commitment to serve and protect,” Decker emphasized.

Class President Joshua Gile, from the Fredonia Police Department, addressed his fellow graduates with a message of pride and determination. “I can say with confidence that the future of law enforcement is in good hands. Hold your heads high. Be proud of what you’ve achieved, and go show your communities the outstanding officers you are,” Gile stated, highlighting the bonds formed during training that will last a lifetime.

KLETC has been a vital institution for law enforcement training since 1968, operating under the University of Kansas. The graduates received certificates affirming their completion of the rigorous basic course, alongside their certification from the Kansas Commission on Peace Officers’ Standards and Training, the state’s licensing authority.

This graduation not only marks a personal achievement for Starnes and her classmates but also signifies a renewed commitment to community safety and service across Kansas. As these new officers return to their respective agencies, the impact of their training will be felt throughout the state, enhancing public safety and strengthening community relations.

As we watch these officers begin their careers, the question remains: how will their journeys unfold in the communities they serve? Stay tuned for updates on their impactful roles in law enforcement and community safety initiatives in Kansas.
