UPDATE: A Griffith man is facing serious felony charges following a violent burglary incident that left one man injured and could land him decades in prison. Ryan Wisniewski, 33, was arrested after allegedly kicking down the door of a couple’s apartment and entering in a “psychotic rage,” according to police reports.

The alarming incident occurred around 10:30 a.m. on December 16, 2023, at the 8000 block of Matterhorn Court, Crown Point. Authorities report that Wisniewski’s dog, described as “pit bull-like,” attacked the male resident during the chaos. The victim suffered a 3-inch cut behind his ear as a result of the attack.

Wisniewski is charged with multiple felonies including Level 1 felony burglary, Level 4 felony burglary, and Level 5 felony possession of a destructive device, alongside two counts of Level 5 felony battery and a Level 6 felony residential entry. He is also facing four misdemeanor charges. Currently, he is being held without bail, with a cash surety set to be reset to $10,000 on January 3, 2024.

According to the police affidavit, Wisniewski had kicked the couple’s door down on previous occasions. The female victim stated that she and Wisniewski were “old high school friends,” which adds a disturbing layer to the violent outburst.

In a significant turn of events, police discovered a Molotov cocktail in Wisniewski’s vehicle, raising further concerns about his intentions during the break-in.

Authorities have not released information about a potential motive, but the dramatic nature of the incident has left the local community unsettled. As the investigation continues, residents are urged to remain vigilant.
