BREAKING: A federal judge has temporarily blocked the deployment of National Guard troops from any state to Oregon. This urgent decision expands an earlier ruling after President Trump attempted to send troops from California and Texas to Portland to bypass restrictions.

In a significant legal twist, Judge Karin Immergut issued the temporary restraining order late on Sunday, effectively halting the Trump administration’s plans to deploy 200 federalized California National Guard personnel from Los Angeles to Portland. The ruling comes on the heels of a lawsuit filed by Oregon, now joined by California, challenging the president’s actions.

The Pentagon had also sought to send Texas National Guard members to Portland and Chicago, with approval from Texas Gov. Greg Abbott. However, Judge Immergut questioned whether this was in direct violation of her previous order, stating that the administration’s strategy seemed to circumvent legal boundaries.

The judge’s order will remain in effect until October 19, 2023, with a telephone hearing scheduled for October 17, 2023, to discuss the possibility of extending the restraining order for an additional 14 days.

In response to the ruling, California Governor Gavin Newsom stated on social media, “We just won in court — again. A federal judge BLOCKED Donald Trump’s unlawful attempt to DEPLOY 300 OF OUR NATIONAL GUARD TROOPS TO PORTLAND.” Meanwhile, Oregon’s State Attorney General Dan Rayfield emphasized the importance of the ruling, declaring, “The president can’t keep playing whack-a-mole with different states’ Guard units to get around court orders & the rule of law.”

This legal battle highlights the pressing tensions surrounding federal troop deployments amid ongoing protests and civil unrest in Portland. The implications of this decision extend beyond Oregon, raising questions about the federal government’s authority to mobilize National Guard forces across state lines without explicit consent.

As developments unfold, all eyes are on the upcoming court hearing, which may further influence the deployment of federal forces in response to ongoing protests. Stay tuned for more updates as this story develops.
