URGENT UPDATE: Durango’s annual fall cleanup is set to kick off on September 29, providing residents an essential opportunity to dispose of leaves and tree limbs efficiently. With summer ending, the city urges all homeowners to prepare for this crucial cleanup initiative.
City crews will collect organic matter neighborhood-by-neighborhood on a strict schedule through late September and into October. Residents are required to place their cleanup materials at the curb or designated collection point the evening before their scheduled pickup. Importantly, once a crew has collected from an area, they will not return, so timely placement is critical.
This year, the city will only accept natural materials like leaves and branches that measure less than 8 feet long and 8 inches in diameter. Non-organic waste will not be collected, emphasizing the importance of adhering to the guidelines laid out by the city.
In an exciting partnership with Table to Farm Compost, residents can request on-demand leaf pickup from September 30 to December 6. This initiative not only helps declutter yards but also promotes sustainability, as the collected leaves will be composted. To participate, homeowners must use 30-gallon compostable paper leaf bags—plastic bags will not be accepted.
Residents are reminded not to seal the bags with tape or staples and to leave them on the curb for collection. More details about the fall cleanup program can be found on the city’s official website: durangoco.gov/346/Spring-and-Fall-Cleanup.
This annual event not only helps maintain the aesthetic appeal of Durango but also supports local environmental efforts. Don’t miss this chance to tidy up your yard and contribute to community sustainability! Prepare now, and ensure your yard is ready for the fall cleanup starting September 29.
