UPDATE: A civil lawsuit against UFC star Conor McGregor has been dropped just hours ago after the alleged victim voluntarily filed for dismissal in U.S. District Court. The lawsuit accused McGregor of sexually assaulting a 49-year-old business executive during an NBA game at the Kaseya Center in Miami in June 2023.
The plaintiff initially filed the civil suit against McGregor and the Miami Heat on January 14, 2023. However, on Tuesday, the victim submitted a notice of voluntary dismissal with prejudice, indicating that no further legal action will be pursued regarding this incident. The Florida State Attorney’s Office previously chose not to file criminal charges related to the matter.
In the lawsuit, it was alleged that McGregor and the woman began conversing in the Courtside Club at Kaseya Center. An acquaintance of the woman claimed that as they were preparing to leave, McGregor grabbed her by the hand and escorted her to the men’s restroom, where the alleged assault took place. McGregor, aged 37, has consistently denied these allegations.
This lawsuit was not McGregor’s only legal hurdle. Last year, he was found liable for a separate sexual assault case from 2018 in the Irish High Court, resulting in a court order to pay the victim 248,000 euros (approximately $257,000). An appeal against that verdict was denied.
McGregor has been out of action in mixed martial arts since suffering a broken leg in a TKO loss to Dustin Poirier at UFC 264 in July 2021. He has expressed intentions to return to the octagon, targeting the UFC’s White House card in June.
As this story develops, it highlights the ongoing complexities surrounding high-profile allegations and the legal ramifications that follow. Stay tuned for more updates on McGregor’s future in both legal battles and professional aspirations.
