UPDATE: North Pond, the renowned Chicago restaurant, is undergoing a captivating transformation under Executive Chef César Murillo. The latest menu reflects Murillo’s innovative spirit and rich culinary background, promising an unforgettable dining experience for patrons starting September 10, 2025.

This iconic Lincoln Park establishment, open since 1998, has rejuvenated its offerings, embracing a unique blend of flavors inspired by Murillo’s Mexican heritage and his experiences as a contestant on “Top Chef.” “If I had to pick one word, it would just be magical,” Murillo shared, emphasizing the restaurant’s new direction.

The revitalized menu showcases three-course brunches for $59 and five-course dinners priced at $134, inviting diners to embark on a culinary journey like no other. Murillo’s signature dishes include a refreshing chilled melon soup with crab salad and a stunning quesadilla crafted from heirloom corn masa, topped with edible flowers from the restaurant’s rooftop garden.

Located at 2610 N. Cannon Drive, North Pond has always emphasized a connection to nature, thanks to the visionary design by architect Nancy Warren. “That’s how the restaurant was designed, and that’s how the menu was designed,” Murillo stated, highlighting the establishment’s commitment to artisanal craftsmanship.

The new menu features dishes inspired by the chef’s personal journey, including a poignant nod to his childhood in Chihuahua City, Mexico. “I didn’t grow up eating a lot of good food,” he recalled, revealing how his humble beginnings fueled his passion for culinary excellence. Murillo’s evolution from a young immigrant to an acclaimed chef is a testament to his resilience and creativity.

With a focus on seasonal ingredients, Murillo collaborates closely with his team, including Chef de Cuisine John Brandon and young cook Zoe Thatcher, to develop dishes that reflect the vibrant culinary landscape of today. Each dish is a blend of tradition and innovation, ensuring that every dining experience is both nostalgic and fresh.

Guests can expect to savor dishes such as seared scallops on buckwheat crepes and a luxurious wagyu beef dish featuring charred cabbage and mushroom purée. The dessert menu dazzles with creative interpretations, including an opera cake infused with tropical flavors.

North Pond also offers a delightful beverage selection crafted by bartender Kat Alexandria, including the inventive Lillet Pad cocktail and seasonal nonalcoholic drinks. The restaurant maintains its commitment to exceptional service, with a friendly staff ready to enhance your dining experience.

As North Pond embarks on this exciting new chapter, Murillo’s vision promises to elevate Chicago’s dining scene, making it a must-visit destination for food lovers. Reservations are now open for both brunch and dinner, so don’t miss out on the chance to experience this culinary renaissance firsthand.
