UPDATE: A lovable Boxer named Scout has just been crowned ‘Pet of the Week’ after capturing hearts with his playful antics involving a toy bulldozer. This joyful news comes from submissions by Newsweek readers, showcasing pets that have stolen the spotlight this week.
Scout’s owner, Cynthia Hannah, revealed that the dog resides with her son in Western Massachusetts and has an insatiable obsession with construction toys. Scout, a charming older Boxer, is known for pushing his favorite bulldozer around for hours, barking excitedly as he plays. “If someone is watching and you ask him to push it, turn it around, etc., he will listen and do what you tell him,” Hannah stated in an email to Newsweek. His playful nature and intelligence make him a perfect companion for her grandson.
But Scout is not alone in the spotlight. The competition featured several other remarkable pets. The first finalist is Oreo, a 12-year-old cat from Sarasota, Florida, who has developed a quirky shoe obsession. His owner, PJ Hahn, rescued Oreo when he was just 11 months old. Recently, Oreo has taken to cuddling and playing with shoes, a new behavior that began only three months ago. “He couldn’t resist” the allure of shoes at the front door, Hahn shared with Newsweek.
Next up is a remarkable Chihuahua named Suki, who was born weighing an astonishing 60 grams. Owner Helen Bright shared that Suki has defied the odds, celebrating her 4th birthday in March. Now weighing a healthy 1 kilo (about 2 pounds), Suki’s determination and spirit have made her a symbol of resilience.
Finally, we have Mabel, a spaniel who became an internet sensation after her owner captured a heartwarming photo of her admiring her reflection. The image, dubbed “Mabel and the Looking Glass,” showcases the dog’s charming personality and love for her own beauty.
