UPDATE: Oakland Athletics rookie Nick Kurtz is officially day-to-day following a right oblique injury sustained during Friday’s game against the Texas Rangers. Manager Mark Kotsay confirmed this afternoon that Kurtz underwent an MRI which returned “clean,” alleviating fears of a serious injury.

Kurtz began feeling discomfort after batting practice prior to Friday’s match. The incident escalated in the third inning when he aggravated the soreness while rounding third base after teammate Brent Rooker’s double. Although he managed to tie the game at 2-2 by crossing home plate, Kurtz immediately walked to the clubhouse with medical staff.

Kotsay clarified that there is no muscle strain involved; however, Kurtz is currently managing pain tolerance. “We hope to get him back sooner than later,” Kotsay stated, leaving fans eager for updates on his return.

This season, Kurtz has been a standout player, boasting a remarkable batting average of .308 with 23 doubles, 27 home runs, 2 triples, and 70 RBIs. Notably, he made history earlier this season as one of only three players in Major League Baseball to hit four home runs in a single game, achieving this on July 25, 2023, against the Houston Astros. He also set a record for total bases in that game with 19.

As the Athletics continue their three-game series against the Rangers, Kurtz’s absence may impact the team’s performance. Fans and analysts alike are watching closely for updates on his recovery. Stay tuned for developing news on Kurtz’s status and what it means for the Athletics moving forward.
