URGENT UPDATE: A suspect has been arrested in connection with a deadly arson fire in San Jose, marking the city’s 14th homicide of the year. Yessenia Estrada was taken into custody by San Jose Police Department (SJPD) officers early Tuesday after the inferno claimed one life at a commercial building in the 200 block of North 27th Street.

The fire broke out at approximately 3:58 a.m. on Monday, prompting immediate emergency response. Upon arrival, officers suspected the blaze was intentionally set, leading to the deployment of SJFD Arson investigators to the scene. In a concerning twist, officials were unable to locate an employee who was believed to be inside the building during the fire.

“Due to the structural instability, a full search for potential victims could not be safely conducted,” SJPD stated. “However, multiple indicators suggested a victim may still be inside.” As a precaution, the SJPD Homicide Unit swiftly joined forces with SJFD Arson investigators to delve deeper into the circumstances surrounding this tragic incident.

On Tuesday, authorities confirmed they discovered a body within the charred remains of the building. The identity of the victim has yet to be disclosed, pending notification of next of kin by the Office of the Medical Examiner.
