Wing Aviation LLC and Walmart Stores Inc. have announced an expansion of their drone delivery service to an additional 150 Walmart locations over the next year. This initiative aims to provide access to drone deliveries for more than 40 million Americans, establishing a network of over 270 drone delivery sites by 2027, spanning from Los Angeles to Miami.
The new service will launch in major metropolitan areas including Los Angeles, St. Louis, Cincinnati, and Miami, with additional locations expected to be revealed in the future. According to Greg Cathey, senior vice president of digital fulfillment transformation at Walmart, “Drone delivery plays an important role in our ability to deliver what customers want, exactly when they want it.” He emphasized that this service addresses urgent needs, from last-minute dinner ingredients to essential items for busy families.
Since commencing operations in the Dallas-Fort Worth region in December 2024 and in Metro Atlanta in December 2025, Wing has reported significant success. The company noted that the top 25% of its customers in these areas place orders up to three times a week. Moreover, deliveries have increased threefold in the last six months of 2025 compared to the first half of the year.
Drone Delivery Network Expansion
Last year, Wing announced plans to extend its drone services to additional cities including Charlotte, Houston, Orlando, and Tampa. Currently, only the Atlanta service is operational, with plans to launch in Houston on January 15, 2026. Adam Woodworth, CEO of Wing, stated, “We’ve spent years building our technology to ensure that when you realize you’re out of eggs or need over-the-counter medicine, the solution is just a few taps away.” He believes that even small packages deserve the speed and reliability of a great delivery service.
The partnership with Walmart has demonstrated the effectiveness of delivering essential items quickly, making a considerable difference for families. Wing’s lightweight drones can transport small packages directly from stores to homes within minutes, operating under the guidelines of the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration. They can fly beyond visual line of sight (BVLOS) within a radius of up to 6 miles (9.6 km) from the stores.
Walmart’s Broader Drone Strategy
Walmart is also collaborating with multiple drone providers to enhance its delivery options. Last year, Zipline initiated its first P2 drone site at Walmart stores in Mesquite and Waxahachie, Texas. This service aims to provide a quieter delivery experience than traditional delivery trucks.
The expansion of drone delivery services aligns with the growing consumer demand for rapid delivery options. Wing’s partnership with Walmart exemplifies how technology can improve convenience and meet the needs of modern consumers across various communities. As the drone delivery landscape evolves, both companies are poised to play a significant role in shaping the future of logistics and customer service.
