Microsoft has rolled out an update for the Copilot app on Windows 11 that introduces new text editing features, enhancing user productivity. This update is available to all users enrolled in the Windows Insider Program and allows for real-time text editing during Copilot Vision sessions.
According to the Microsoft Copilot team, the new functionality enables users to rewrite, refine, and edit text seamlessly while collaborating within various applications. “We’re continuously exploring how Copilot can empower users to be more productive, craft high-quality content, and reduce the friction of getting started,” they stated. The updates are designed to support user feedback and improve real-world application.
To utilize the new Copilot Actions, users must enable the feature within the Copilot settings and activate Copilot Vision. Once set up, users can share their text-editing applications with Copilot. A distinctive “gleam” effect will appear around the app, indicating that Copilot is actively engaging with the document.
The capabilities include voice commands such as “rewrite this to be more formal,” “make this clearer,” or “simplify this text.” Copilot will then provide suggested edits, allowing users to preview changes before implementation. This interactive approach aims to enhance the editing experience, making it more intuitive and user-friendly.
I tested this feature using an article I published earlier this week. While the tool did make an error by conflating the physical size of a camera lens sensor in millimeters with its resolution in megapixels, the interaction was largely seamless and easy to navigate. Many users may find these enhancements beneficial for their content creation needs.
To access this new functionality, users must ensure they have the Copilot app version 1.25121.60.0 or higher, along with the Windows 11 build 26200.6899 or later. With these updates, Microsoft continues to refine its commitment to integrating advanced AI capabilities into everyday computing tasks, aiming to facilitate a smoother workflow for users engaged in text editing and collaboration.
