The Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority (SEPTA) is reminding riders that nearly 45,000 Key cards are set to expire on February 6, 2024. Specifically, 44,617 cards will no longer be valid, prompting the authority to encourage users to update their cards promptly to avoid disruptions in travel.
Riders with registered Key cards can conveniently transfer their Travel Wallet funds and unused passes to a new card online. According to SEPTA, this process not only simplifies the transfer of funds but also protects users in case their card is lost. “Registering your card not only protects it if it’s misplaced but also makes it much easier to transfer any Travel Wallet funds or unused passes,” SEPTA stated on its official Facebook page.
To replace an expired Key card, riders can purchase a new one for $4.95. This fee is waived if the new card is registered within 30 days of purchase. Transfers can be completed through several channels, including SEPTA Sales Locations, the Customer Call Center, or the card-to-card replacement service.
Contactless Payment Options Available
Additionally, SEPTA has introduced contactless payment options for riders. Passengers can now pay their Bus, Metro, and Regional Rail fares using a contactless credit card, debit card, smartphone, or smartwatch. These contactless fares align with Travel Wallet rates, and riders using Bus and Metro services are eligible for two free transfers.
For those with unregistered cards that have already expired, SEPTA encourages contacting the Key Customer Call Center for assistance. The authority remains committed to providing a seamless travel experience for its users and appreciates their continued patronage. “Thanks for riding SEPTA!” they concluded in their announcement.
As the expiration date approaches, SEPTA emphasizes the importance of updating Key cards to ensure uninterrupted service for all riders.
