Samsung has officially begun the rollout of its latest software update, One UI 8, which is based on Android 16. This update introduces various enhancements and artificial intelligence (AI) capabilities designed to improve user experience. The rollout starts with the Galaxy S25 series and will expand to additional models, including the Galaxy S24 series, Galaxy Z Fold 6, and Galaxy Z Flip 6, throughout the year.

New Features in One UI 8

One UI 8 focuses on enhancing the proactive features first introduced in One UI 7. It provides personalized suggestions that adapt to user habits and contexts, making everyday tasks smoother. A notable feature is the Brief function, which delivers tailored updates on traffic, reminders, and health insights from a connected Galaxy Watch.

Security is a prominent aspect of this update. Samsung has introduced Knox Enhanced Encrypted Protection (KEEP), a new architecture that establishes app-specific encrypted storage environments to safeguard sensitive data handled by the device’s AI. Additionally, the Knox Matrix feature automatically signs users out of their Samsung Account when a security threat is detected. The updated Secure Wi-Fi now employs a new cryptographic framework to bolster protection on public networks.

AI enhancements also take center stage in One UI 8. The update incorporates a multimodal AI approach that combines visual, auditory, and contextual intelligence, enabling more intuitive interactions. For example, the new Gemini Live feature allows users to communicate with an AI capable of understanding on-screen content in real time, negating the need to switch between applications. Furthermore, Google’s Circle to Search has been upgraded to facilitate instantaneous translations of text from various sources, including social media and news articles.

Adapting to Large Screens

One UI 8 has been tailored for the unique hardware of Samsung’s Galaxy smartphones and tablets. The update features an AI Results View that presents AI-generated results while keeping the original content visible. On larger devices, an enhanced Multi Window function allows users to effortlessly drag and drop AI-generated content into their workflows. The FlexWindow feature, exclusive to Galaxy Z Flip models, enables hands-free voice searches via Gemini without the need to unfold the device.

Additional enhancements include the Audio Eraser feature, which allows users to remove unwanted background noise in video and audio applications with a single tap. A revamped clock design also adapts to the user’s wallpaper, offering customizable font sizes, colors, and thicknesses.

The rollout of One UI 8 will extend to a wide range of Samsung Galaxy devices throughout 2025. Eligible models include the Galaxy S24 FE, Galaxy S23 series, Galaxy Z Fold 5, Galaxy Z Flip 5, and many others, encompassing various series and models, such as the Galaxy Tab S10 and Galaxy A series.

As Samsung continues to innovate, One UI 8 represents a significant step forward in enhancing user experience, security, and functionality across its device lineup. Users can anticipate receiving this update throughout the remainder of 2025, bringing with it a host of new features designed to improve their daily smartphone interactions.
