
Samsung has confirmed that it is actively developing a tri-fold smartphone, targeting a launch by the end of 2023. This announcement follows the unveiling of the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Galaxy Z Flip 7 at the recent Unpacked event, where no mention of the much-anticipated tri-fold device was made. According to TM Roh, Samsung’s acting head of its Device Experience Division, the company is focused on perfecting the product’s usability before its official release.
The exact name of the tri-fold phone remains undecided, but speculation suggests it may be branded as the Galaxy Fold G. Roh emphasized that the development phase is nearing completion, indicating that the company is prioritizing the refinement of features and user experience.
In a conversation with the Korea Times, Roh stated, “We are now focusing on perfecting the product and its usability, but we have not decided its name.” As interest builds, Android Authority has released several images and animations purportedly depicting the tri-fold device, derived from the latest version of Samsung’s One UI 8 software.
Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 7, which retails for approximately $2,000, has been well-received for its impressive performance and camera capabilities. With the Z Fold 7 setting a high standard in the foldable phone market, the introduction of a tri-fold device could signal a bold step forward in smartphone design. A tri-fold configuration, featuring two folds, would allow for a significantly larger display, positioning Samsung to compete with Huawei’s Mate XT Ultimate.
The Huawei Mate XT Ultimate, which offers a similar foldable design, is priced at around €3,499 (approximately $4,000), but is not available in the United States due to trade restrictions.
