Razer has announced the launch of the limited edition Razer Boomslang 20th Anniversary Edition, celebrating the legacy of what many consider the world’s first dedicated gaming mouse. Originally released in 1999 and 2000, the Boomslang was revolutionary for its time, featuring a 2,000 DPI sensor and USB support, along with a customization app that allowed users to remap buttons—an unprecedented feature at that time.
Fast forward to 2025, and the new edition of the Boomslang encapsulates modern gaming technology while retaining the original’s distinctive aesthetic. The 20th Anniversary Edition incorporates advanced features such as an 8,000 Hz wireless polling rate and the cutting-edge Razer Focus Pro 45K Optical Sensor Gen-2, which boasts a sensitivity rating of up to 45,000 DPI. Additionally, the mouse is equipped with Optical Mouse Switches rated for 100 million clicks and 9-Zone Razer Chroma RGB Lighting, enhancing the gaming experience with vibrant visual effects.
Collector’s Item with a Modern Twist
The design of this edition pays homage to the original, featuring a PU leather-wrapped left and right-click buttons that add a retro flair to its transparent shell. Included with the mouse is the Mouse Dock Pro, a wireless charging dock that complements the modern gaming setup. Notably, the Razer Boomslang 20th Anniversary Edition will be limited to just 1,337 uniquely serialized units, making it a collector’s item rather than a standard retail release.
Razer has stated that these units will be available worldwide and are intended “exclusively for collectors who demand a piece of gaming heritage.” To further engage the gaming community, Razer plans to give away several units in upcoming events, including a special unit signed by Razer’s Co-Founder and CEO, Min-Liang Tan.
