Marianne Vos of Visma-Lease a Bike secured victory in the first stage of the Tour de France Femmes, finishing ahead of Kim Le Court from AG Insurance-Soudal in Plumelec. This win not only marked Vos’s triumph on the stage but also earned her the first yellow leader’s jersey of the nine-day race. The stage, which culminated in an uphill sprint, showcased Vos’s power and strategy.
As the race approached its climax, Pauline Ferrand-Prévot, also riding for Visma-Lease a Bike, initiated an attack with less than 700 metres remaining on the Côte de Cadoudal. Despite her strong effort, Ferrand-Prévot was unable to maintain her lead and ultimately finished in third place, just behind Vos and Le Court.
Vos benefitted from a well-timed leadout by her teammates, who effectively controlled the peloton with five kilometres to go. Ferrand-Prévot played a crucial role in this final push, setting up Vos for the decisive sprint. Although Anna van der Breggen from SD Worx-Protime reacted quickly to the surge, she was unable to close the gap to Vos.
In the last moments of the race, Vos surged around Le Court, clinching the stage victory. Her performance not only highlighted her skill but also underscored the importance of teamwork in cycling.
The Tour de France Femmes continues over the next several days, promising more exciting stages and competitive racing. Fans and analysts alike are keen to see how the standings evolve as the event progresses.
