Westgate High School concluded its regular season in impressive fashion with a decisive victory over the Comeaux Spartans, winning 42-7 on November 6, 2025. The triumph marks a significant turnaround for the Tigers, raising their record to 6-4 as they prepare for the playoffs. This performance highlights a resurgence for the team, showcasing their potential heading into postseason play.
The Tigers set an aggressive tone from the outset with a balanced offensive strategy. Quarterback Noah Antoine delivered a standout performance, completing 12 of 17 passes for 206 yards and three touchdowns. The sophomore’s ability to maintain poise in the pocket and make quick decisions contributed significantly to the team’s success, allowing him to effectively distribute the ball among his talented receiving corps.
Ryan Antoine, head coach of the Tigers, expressed his pride in the team’s performance. “We knew we had to come out here fired up and be ready,” he stated. “I’m just proud of how our kids went out there and had fun tonight. We did what we were supposed to do and put ourselves right back in playoff contention.”
Westgate struck first in the opening quarter, with senior Brock Mitchell scoring on a two-yard touchdown run, capping a physical drive that set the tone for the game. Following that, Antoine connected with Cayden Lancelin for a 17-yard touchdown, quickly establishing a 13-0 lead.
In the second quarter, Antoine extended the Tigers’ lead with a 43-yard touchdown pass to Jackilon Roberson, followed by a successful two-point conversion to Lancelin, bringing the score to 21-0. The Tigers’ offensive rhythm appeared seamless, a stark contrast to earlier struggles in the season. Coach Antoine praised his quarterback’s growth, noting his sound decision-making and ability to read the game effectively.
The rushing attack also played a crucial role in the victory. Westgate amassed a total of 241 yards on the ground, led by Caemon Crockem, who contributed 99 yards on just 10 carries, including an impressive 58-yard touchdown in the third quarter. Mitchell added another 65 yards and a touchdown, while Keyon Colbert capped the scoring with a late touchdown run.
The Tigers showcased remarkable execution throughout the game, converting all five of their fourth-down attempts and accumulating a total of 468 yards of offense. In contrast, Comeaux struggled to find their rhythm, managing only 299 total yards and failing to convert any fourth-down opportunities. The Spartans’ sole score came in the third quarter on a 41-yard rushing touchdown.
Defensively, Westgate was equally dominant, with senior linebacker David Antoine leading the charge with 12 tackles. Defensive backs Trandin Benjamin and Chance Archangel effectively contained the Spartans’ passing game, while Rahim Alem added an interception that halted a promising Comeaux drive.
Westgate’s resurgence in the latter part of the season has been one of the most compelling stories in the region. After a rocky start with a 1-4 record, the Tigers have won five of their last six games, demonstrating their ability to outscore opponents significantly and regain the confidence that propelled them to championship contention in previous years.
Coach Antoine acknowledged the team’s evolution throughout the season, stating, “It wasn’t our goal to be 6-4 going in, but I feel like we’re a better team now than we were early in the year. We had young guys in key spots who had to learn on the fly.” He credited the team’s health and conditioning as vital components of their late-season success.
The victory likely secures Westgate a favorable seed in the LHSAA Division I Non-Select playoffs, with expectations that they will improve from their current seed of 18 to potentially secure a home playoff game. Looking ahead, Coach Antoine emphasized the importance of momentum in the postseason. “It’s all about who’s hot at the right time. We’ve been a top seed before; we’ve gone on the road before, so it doesn’t matter.”
As the Tigers prepare for the playoffs, they remain focused on their continued improvement rather than their seeding. The prospect of a rematch against Airline, a team that eliminated them from the playoffs last season, does not concern Antoine. “We just want to be able to play,” he affirmed. “Not everybody has the opportunities to do those things, but our kids deserve that.”
