The Vincent Yellow Jackets secured a decisive victory against the Central-Coosa County Cougars, winning the regular-season series with a score of 49-21 on January 20, 2024, at Central High School in Rockford. This win marks the Jackets’ second triumph over the Cougars this season, solidifying their competitive edge in area play.
Early in the match, Vincent showcased a strong defensive performance, allowing the Cougars to score only six points in the first quarter. The Yellow Jackets quickly established their dominance with contributions from players like Aaliyah Johnson and Daniah Jordan, who combined for several baskets. By the end of the first quarter, Vincent held a 12-6 lead.
In the second quarter, the Jackets continued to build their advantage. Kinsley Perkins added to the score by successfully converting three of her four free throws, ending the half with a total of six points. Johnson maintained her momentum with two additional field goals during the quarter. Despite limited offensive contributions from other players, Vincent’s defense was formidable, conceding only one field goal in the entire second quarter. This effort enabled the Jackets to extend their lead to 21-13 at halftime.
Strong Third Quarter Performance
The third quarter saw improved play from both teams, but Vincent’s offense remained effective. Perkins and Johnson were instrumental again, with Perkins scoring four points and Johnson adding six, pushing both players into double figures. Perkins scored two more field goals, further solidifying her impact on the game. In total, Vincent outscored Central by ten points in the fourth quarter, resulting in a robust 28-point victory.
Perkins and Johnson shone as the game’s top scorers, each finishing with 14 points. Jordan contributed five points, while Keller and Kris Jones added four points each. With this win, the Yellow Jackets improved their record to 8-10 for the season.
