Todd Cassity, the head football coach at Chelsea High School, has announced his resignation after four seasons in charge. The decision, made public on October 10, 2024, comes as Cassity plans to relocate to Georgia, where he aims to continue his coaching career.
In a statement on Tuesday, Cassity expressed his desire to explore new opportunities, stating, “After 28 years, 11 as a head coach, it’s just time to go ahead and do something different.” With aspirations to coach for another 10 to 15 years, he emphasized the importance of timing for both himself and the Chelsea program. Cassity noted that he intends to begin his new role in Georgia in the spring.
During his tenure at Chelsea, Cassity compiled a record of 14 wins and 27 losses, navigating the challenges of high-level competition in Class 7A. The Hornets faced formidable opponents, including Thompson, Hoover, and Hewitt-Trussville. In the past two seasons, Chelsea showed improvement, finishing with a record of 5-5 in 2025 and 6-5 in 2024, which included a first-round playoff appearance.
Reflecting on his experience, the 51-year-old coach expressed pride in the growth of his players, particularly the senior class that he coached throughout their high school careers. “Our seniors this year were freshmen when we got here. I’ve seen them go through a lot over the past four years,” Cassity said. He appreciated the support from school administrators and assistant coaches, acknowledging their contributions to the program’s development.
Cassity’s leadership also coincided with significant improvements to the Chelsea football facilities. Under his guidance, the program benefited from renovations to the home side of the football field, the installation of a new scoreboard, and the addition of new turf. “A lot of good things have happened here with the help of the city and county. I feel very blessed to have been a part of that,” he remarked.
As Chelsea High School begins its search for a new head football coach, Cassity’s departure marks the end of a notable chapter in the school’s athletic history. His impact on the program and the community will be felt as he transitions to the next phase of his coaching career in Georgia.
