
A serious collision involving a DUI driver on Interstate 15 in Escondido resulted in multiple injuries on the evening of March 23, 2024. The incident occurred at approximately 18:26 local time, when a reckless driver, reportedly exceeding speeds of 100 miles per hour, collided with a Jeep on the on-ramp to eastbound State Route 78.
According to the California Highway Patrol (CHP), the SUV driver veered across the lane before striking the Jeep, which overturned and was subsequently engulfed in flames. A good Samaritan intervened, rescuing two individuals from the burning vehicle. They were transported to a local hospital with minor injuries.
Both the SUV driver and a child passenger were also taken to the hospital for treatment of their injuries, with police escorting the driver. After receiving medical attention, the driver was arrested for felony DUI and later booked into the Vista Detention Facility. The CHP is continuing its investigation into the incident, emphasizing the dangers of reckless driving and the importance of adhering to traffic laws.
