Patricia “Pat” A. Bailly, a cherished member of the Grafton community, passed away at the age of 81 on July 22, 2025, at her home in Grafton, North Dakota. Her death marks the loss of a beloved mother, grandmother, and friend, who left a lasting impact on those around her.

Born Patricia Ann Shelp on August 16, 1943, in Langdon, North Dakota, she was the daughter of the late Theodore “Ted” and Isabel (Fischer) Shelp. Raised in Langdon, Patricia received her early education at St. Alphonsus Catholic School. On July 27, 1961, she married Dawn Bailly, and together they built a life in Cavalier and Grand Forks before settling in Grafton.

Patricia devoted her early years to raising her daughters, but she later embarked on a fulfilling career at the Grafton State School, where she worked from 1974 until her retirement after more than 30 years of service. Her dedication enriched the lives of many individuals, showcasing her compassionate nature.

Time spent with family was of utmost importance to Patricia. She relished moments shared with her children and grandchildren, finding joy in their achievements and milestones. An enthusiastic bingo player, she often enjoyed outings to local casinos with friends, seeking both entertainment and camaraderie. Gardening was another passion; she took great pleasure in cultivating flowers, creating vibrant spaces filled with beauty.

Patricia was an active member of St. John’s Catholic Church in Grafton, where her faith provided her with comfort and strength throughout her life. She is survived by her husband, Dawn Bailly; her children, Kim (Tim) Martin, Dawna (Paul) Woinarowicz, Michelle (Pat) Kohler, and Roberta (Josh) Malone; as well as ten grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren, with another on the way.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her daughter Angie, her infant sister Kaye, and her sisters Fern (Julian) Hofstad and Joyce (Terry) Moran. Patricia also mourned the loss of her lifelong friend, Norma Jean Swenson, and her brothers-in-law, Leland, Richard, and Raymond Bailly. Notably, she was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

The Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Thursday, July 31, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Grafton. Visitation is scheduled for one hour prior to the service. Following the mass, inurnment will occur at Mount Carmel Catholic Cemetery in Mt. Carmel, North Dakota.
