In a strategic move to enhance her coaching staff for the upcoming 2025-26 season, head coach Yolett McPhee-McCuin announced the hiring of Danetra Forrest Williams as the special assistant to the head coach for the Ole Miss Women’s Basketball team on Wednesday. Williams, an alumna of Ole Miss and a former standout player, is expected to bring valuable experience and support to the program.

McPhee-McCuin expressed her enthusiasm for Williams’ addition, stating, “I am incredibly excited to have another Ole Miss alumna in the Touhy Building with us. Dee is not only an alumna but a true supporter of Ole Miss women’s basketball. She is also a pro in everything she does! Her impact will be felt immediately throughout our building and in the community.”

Williams’ Impressive Background

Williams was a key player for the Rebels from 2005 to 2008, where she excelled on the court with a shooting percentage of 46 percent and averaged 5.5 points and 3.7 rebounds per game across 93 appearances. Notably, she played a pivotal role in leading the team to the Elite Eight during the 2006-07 season.

After completing her collegiate career, Williams transitioned into coaching. She served as an assistant coach at Jones County Community College, where she contributed to the Lady Bobcats achieving a commendable record of 19-8 and securing the MACJC Championship. In 2014, she took on the role of head women’s basketball coach at Coahoma Community College, where she led the program for three years.

Looking Ahead for Ole Miss Basketball

The hiring of Williams comes as Ole Miss women’s basketball prepares for a critical offseason leading up to the 2025-26 season. As the program continues to build momentum, the addition of an experienced voice like Williams is anticipated to bolster the team’s competitiveness in the challenging landscape of collegiate athletics.
