Russell Sage College (RSC) women’s soccer achieved a significant victory on September 6, 2023, defeating Nichols College 1-0 in their home opener at Albany, New York. This match marked an important milestone for the Gators, improving their season record to 1-1-0.

The Gators dominated the match, showcasing their offensive strength by taking 22 of the first 30 shots. In the 65th minute, RSC finally broke through when sophomore midfielder and Maple Hill High School graduate Eva Hirschoff scored the game’s only goal. Hirschoff skillfully converted a bouncing cross from senior forward Gianna Viscusi, sending the ball into the net and securing the lead.

Strong defensive efforts were critical for RSC, with freshman goalkeeper Isabella Clute and sophomore goalkeeper Hailey Blake combining for five saves, thereby preserving the clean sheet. Clute, who earned her first collegiate win, demonstrated her skills effectively throughout the match.

Despite the loss, Nichols College (0-3-0) put up a fight, with freshman goalkeeper Isabella Dupret making an impressive 11 saves to keep her team in contention. The Gators maintained a commanding advantage in shots, outshooting Nichols 24-9 and leading in corner kicks 5-1.

As the Gators look ahead, they will face UMass-Boston in their next match on Saturday afternoon. This upcoming game will be another opportunity for RSC to build momentum and further improve their season record.
